When I was in high school and started studying Graphic Design I discovered a new type of art, typography. Many people do not think about words and letters as art, but it can completely make or break a design. I think typography is so interesting the way it can transform a boring statement into something so powerful. It can vary from the simple type you write an essay with or what you read in a brochure, to having letters form a shape, or tell a story. You may have seen this print around "you are more perfect than Helvetica" and wondered what they are talking about. Helvetica is known as the most perfect font. In high school I watched a two hour movie on it. Literally, a two hour movie on the making of a font. I am basically obsessed with this font and use it as often as possible. The fact that teachers make me use Times New Roman, really bothers me.
Helvetica is one side of typography, while on the other hand we have something like this:
So, next time you're doodling, try doing something with words and see what you can come up with!
