Like I posted in the post below, we talk a lot about street art because it is such an important topic here in London. One of my favorite Graphic Designers, Shepard Fairey. Known for his street art, his clothing line OBEY, and the Obama poster. I became obsessed with this guy after someone in my art class told me about him last year.
In my Culture by Design class today we learned about street art. The art scene here in London is so unbelievable there is too much to post about! We went to Leake street today (my second time) the tunnel that Banksy started as a legal graffiti area for artists. I learned so much today about London street art and the war between Banksy and local artist, King Robbo. Personally I like Banksys stuff better, even though he did seem to get a lot of ideas from French artist, Blek. However, King Robbo seems to be a nicer guy than Banksy heres an example of their turf war: So far I have seen 2 Banksys, one on a Tour in Notting Hill and one I happened to stumble upon on, on a random road on the way to a pub to watch the USA Ghana game! Today I saw a Robbo which is cool because they don't really exist anymore, they were all painted illegally and are considered vandalism, not street art. Also, Robbo disappeared and no one knows if he is dead or alive. The Documentary we watched also featured an artist named Ben Eine who has been arrested over 20 times for vandalism, but now gets commissioned for doing street art. I didn't even realize it but I saw one of his art pieces during my first week here. Banksy
