I'm sorry, that was inappropriate. Yesterday I was not feeling too hot so I chilled all day watching shark week. Feeling inspired by these amazing animals I worked on this all day! I love these geometric prints they are so fun and way too easy to make!

It's about that time already where you start planning or thinking about your room/dorm for next year! Many of you are probably reading this thinking "um..no, it's only July are you crazy?" The answer is yes. I love, love, love, decorating my room I and I do it throughout the year. Over my past four year in college I have learned a lot... not from academics, but about where to find good, cheap items, knowing what is necessary or just slightly ridiculous. Remember this is not your 'first home' this is not an HGTV remodel. More than likely you're in a pretty sh!tty apartment and have very limited space. Art is my number one priority when it comes to decorating. For me, the more the merrier. This is the one time you can crowd the walls with framed or unframed art, post cards, pictures, etc. You're a college student, not a homeowner. Society 6 is my favorite place for art prints. I have found (and sold!) some amazing prints there and the prices are not bad. Why not help a struggling artist out? Unframed art can look really cool especially if you're in college, I'm particularly referring to that dorm room in 22 Jump Street: When I was a freshman/sophomore Pinterest was HUGE, DIY canvases were even bigger. However, most of the time they suck, lets be honest. Try fooling around with photoshop or illustrator -free trials available- to see what you come up with. Not all of us are painters, especially me! The best art is the ones you have collected, I taped up all my post cards from studying abroad, and framed a lot of cool art prints I found on the street. But if you don't have a fabulous life like me (major joke), buying is the first way to go, unfortunately. I have got to say the best purchase from Society 6 I have made was when my roommate and I were not necessarily sober, and purchased this beauty which hung over our living room for 2 years. Society 6 art is amazing and you can find the perfect pieces for your room on this website, I am serious theres some crazy stuff on here. Rifle Paper Company is another one of my favorites. A little more on the expensive side, but you really don't need to fill up your shopping cart like I do every time I am on their website. This is my favorite piece that I own, they have tons of cities and are great ways to add color to your room. I mean come on, how cute are these?!
I am so excited about this, Mahogany Sessions is coming to America! This is my favorite youtube channel, make that favorite thing ever. I listen to this channel almost everyday! When I am doing work, getting ready, or just hanging out. Check out some of my favorite videos and artists by scrolling down or clicking on the music tab! Oh man I am pumped.
Here is some new music I have been listening to recently, not necessarily new songs, just new for me! Sorry for the random videos, not allowed to play vevo! At least we can see how talented these people actually are!
As you can see, this is Allen Stone. He's really weird and it's so awesome.
Next is Elle King, who actually Rob Schneider's daughter. I don't know if that makes you like her more or less, but still check her out. You've probably heard this song cause I've heard it on the radio a bunch but she's really cool.
Gin Wigmore, another super cool, kick-ass type chick.
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. I would do anything to be her she is amazing and I could listen to this song a million times in a row and not be sick of it.
It's almost impossible to get his music and barely anyone watches his videos. It's a complete mystery to me because he's just insanely good. Ady Suleiman.
Not gonna lie, I never ever thought I would be a Willow Smith fan, but this video 100% changed my mind. I hope she stays this route and doesn't go back to 'Whip My Hair' Willow. Here's a Vevo video, I just don't like the way they look when I embed them, but I did it for this one because this video is awesome.
Happy June Everyone!! I just got back from school and am trying (desperately) to find a job. While I am currently unemployed and have too much free time for my own good I, hopefully, will be blogging a lot more. When summer comes around everyone worries about their beach bodies and getting a tan, I usually am more concerned about using my free time to find great books, and things that inspire me. I feel especially limited at home, unable to make a mess without my mom breathing down my neck but she'll get over it ;). This particular post will be about the summer books I recommend and plan to read. Here we go! I am all about beach reads, but it's hard to find the right one without looking like a dumb bimbo (sorry mom) reading some teen love story. However recently I have found the perfect beach reads that you can whip through in no time and will actually give you a new insight on life. The #1 book I recommend is Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham. I have read this twice and have developed a full on obsession with this woman. Best part of her book is the amazing interior cover art. So smart I definitely will be trying to make my own version of this!!! YES PLEASE by Amy Poehler is my next recommendation! Another book I whipped through in a day or two. This book was great, I became an even bigger fan of Amy Poehler, she is so funny and the kind of mom I have a feeling I will be when I get there! Definitely a must read. If you haven't figured it out, I love love love reading biographies and autobiographies. I fell in love with them when we were required to pick a biography/autobiography in eighth grade and do some project that I don't remember. I choose Marilyn Monroe and once I read her book all I wanted to do was find more like it! My third book recommendation is Mindy Kaling's Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns). I mean with a title like that, how could you not want to read this! My last recommendation is a book I read on spring break in Punta Cana under the cabanna nursing my sunburn. Where'd you go Bernadette by Maria Semple. Not a typical book I would normally choose but I really enjoyed this. I picked it off the shelf because of its awesome book cover. Don't even get me started on 'don't judge a book by it's cover' because I think that is stupid. As an artist, thats all I care about to be honest, why would I choose an ugly book when I can choose a cool looking one? Am I right? .... yes. If you're not into any of these, you're dumb. No, just kidding, but really give them a try. While y'all are doing that I'll give you a look at my own summer reading list I plan to enjoy! First on the List: The Catcher in the Rye. I know what you're thinking but I have never read this book and I feel like I need to. I've only read like 15 pages but so far I'm pretty into it. I'm going to try to finish it before Judd Apatow's new book comes out. I am so in love with him and his perfect family I want them to adopt me. I think they would take a 22 year old don't you? Anyways, his new book is called: Sick in the Head and I know the day it comes out I will be headed to Barnes and Noble (not a kindle girl I like to have the real thing.)
Next, Mindy Kaling has a new one out, its a collection of essays (like Dunham's) titled, Why Not Me? Unfortunately this doesn't come out until September. In the mean time I'm thinking about reading Steve Martin's Novel, an Object of Beauty. The cover is really nice and so it Steve, so I'm going to give it a try! Finally, I have this weird little thing with Sophie Kinsella books where I feel like I must read them all (not including the Shopaholic series, even thought I love that movie.) Not to bash her, but I definitely don't feel myself becoming any more intelligent while reading her novels but they are so funny and i've been reading them for about 8 years. She has a new one called, Finding Audrey that I will definitely be checking out. This is all I am going to post, knowing I have big goals to read all summer, but will probably be watching TV. Hopefully you are doing bigger and better things! So recently I have been having some issues realizing that I may not have chosen the right major. I am a Media Arts and Design major and I think I should have gone the graphic design route. I know you probably think those are the exact same thing but they are so different. Instead of freaking out, I decided to really teach myself. I consider myself an intermediate/expert on adobe products but I know there is SO much more I can learn. I have therefore taken it upon myself to learn the amazing online tutorials they have out there. So far I have done two, all posters to be printed for my bf's lame "game room/man cave." He wanted an Iron Man poster, which I was the opposite of thrilled about, but I sucked it up and did my best. This guy is amazing, he did the whole tutorial from scratch, makes me mad at how amazingly talented people are. Try it for yourself, Iron Man in Illustrator Tutorial. Pretty proud of myself for doing this, it was pretty difficult and you definitely have to understand the basics of illustrator to complete this. Next up: Batman. At least I have seen these movies! Here is the simple illustrator final of Batman, which will be vamped up in photoshop obviously. I just decided to wing this one and not do a tutorial. Now finally, this is more my speed. Trent didn't request this one, this is just one of the tutorials I have been dying to try. This was by FAR the easiest to complete and I recommend you try it! The designer took a few extra steps that I found necessary and skipped but here is the final product:
Wouldn't it be so nice to be Kendall Jenner running around France with all your top model friends? yeah it would... I love the film festival and would die if I ever went! It let actors and actresses do films they are passionate about and really shows film as an art form instead of a box office money maker. I love looking at the film selections, and even though I will see very few of these films its nice to be able to see trailers of films made by directors from all over the world. The film part is great and all but the fashion part, is even greater. Kendall Jenner completely won the entire week when she stepped out in this perfect, stunning Calvin Klein. Red CarpetBecause it is a full week of events there are too many amazing dresses and outfits to write about each one. So in typical Mady fashion I'm just going to bullet point my initial thoughts on the dresses that stood out to me the most on the red carpet.
1. Kendall Jenner can wear anything, the skirt is beautiful, but I dont love the top. Only she can pull something like that off. 2. That Lanvin dress is the best thing I have seen in a long time. I wish she wasn't so thin, it would look better if it fit her better. 3. Karlie Kloss is so hot even when she wears a dress that looks like a gothic suitcase. I love it. 4. Ohhh Oscar I miss you. She looks soooo good in this it's so pretty and we rarely see "pretty" dresses like this anymore. 5. I'm so in love with Sienna Miller and everything she wears. She always wears something new and is the coolest girl around. 9. Only she can pull off an elegant Grecian dress with dread locks. I love how cool she is. 10. I am a huge fan of Mélanie Laurent and she looks so beautiful in this Zuhair Murad in her homeland. I am selling some of my favorite things to make room in my new apartment that is slightly smaller. These are some of my favorite necklaces from places like Anthropologie, Madewell, and Stella & Dot. The room accessories are from many different places and have been purchased within the last year or two and are in great condition . The purses are ones that I love from Tory Burch, Michael Kors, and MARC by Marc Jacobs. If you are interested in helping me make some $$$ please contact, comment, e-mail, text, or Facebook me and I will mail the items to you! Hover over each image to see the origin and the price! As many of you know I have a slight shopping problem so many of these items have never been used and are all in great condition! Just to clarify the jewelry hardware is gold (my favorite) it is just hard to tell in these photos. *If you see something you like, but don't like the price, let me know!
Prices can be negotiated especially if multiple items are wanted ALSO check back for more items I will be posting for sale! *(703) 785 1427* The Met Gala is my favorite time of year for fashion. It is one of the few nights where celebrities can truly push the limits and wear something outside of the box ... as Rihanna did above. Here are the best, worst, craziest, and most shocking looks from last night! I was really surprised that I found myself liking this dress. Definitely the first i have liked with an animal on it. She looks so pretty, and it must be the way the colors work together that makes me love this, it's so peaceful but also fun looking. The Best of the Best This dress is freaking amazing. I would do just about anything to be Kendal Jenner right now, she is everywhere! I love that this risqué dress is also made by Calvin Klein who usually does simple clean lines. I love this so much. I have been super into Chrissy Teigan lately. She has a very interesting look and is always stunning on the red carpet! I always enjoy the dresses she chooses they are all so beautiful and not too ... slutty. How could you not be a sucker for Eddie Redmayne, and especially anyone he's married too. Hannah looks amazing in this Valentino. Definitely one of my favorite looks of the night. To be completely honest, I just wrote an entire paragraph on how much I do not like this dress. However as I was typing I kept staring at her in this and realized she has never looked prettier. She had a little bump in the road a few months ago but she back and looks refreshed. Completely in love with this look... now! It is true, Derick Jeter is the luckiest guy in the world, especially with Hannah Davis looking like this on his arm. This is my "I don't know, I HATE it and LOVE it at the same time" Category Each one of these looks gave me a reaction that I did not expect. I hate and love each one. The problem with Hailee Seinfeld and Behati Prinsloo's is their makeup. Both have on heavy black eye makeup that ruined these stunning dresses. My immediate reaction to Alexa Chung's was, "ew", then "aw its kinda cute." Karlie look absolutely amazing but I'm not into those sheer maxis with a short dress underneath type thing. And finally, I love Selena's dress, but that flower thing is awful. Best BeautyBeauty plays a large part in the Met Gala, they can sometimes make or ruin a look. Here are my favorite looks, some of the best i've seen. And this is there things get weird...
Anne Hathaways hoodie, SJP's hat, Solange as a planet, Kerry's dress made for giants, Olivia's outfit done by a third grader, and Beyonce's NEKED bod. It was a wild night. |
